Farmguard Nu Zinc
Contains 99% Zinc Oxide Plus Stabiliser.
For concentrated drenching and pasture treatment to prevent facial eczema in sheep and cattle.
General
Farm Guard Nu Zinc stabilised Zinc Oxide readily mixes with an equal quantity of water (add 1 kg of Farm Guard Nu Zinc to 1 litre of water) to form a concentrated free flowing solution for accurate drenching of stock. More dilute solutions are easily made for pasture spraying. The longer Farm Guard Nu Zinc is dosed before animals ingest toxic facial eczema spores the greater is the amount of the liver protection.
For the best results start a long term treatment regime 2 weeks before the facial eczema season normally occurs. Where danger of facial eczema does not normally warrant routine NU ZINC treatment stock can be protected (60% protection) by crisis dosing during danger periods.
Withholding Period: Nil
Storage
Store in a dry, well ventilated place.
Caution
Farm Guard Nu Zinc should be administered to cattle or sheep at risk of facial eczema. In Copper and/or Selenium deficient areas it is recommended that these minerals should be supplemented when dosing with Zinc.
Zinc may be toxic at higher than recommended levels.
Farm Guard Nu Zinc is non-toxic but inhalation of the dry material should be avoided.
Directions
1: Oral Drenching
The mixture: Mix 1kg of Farm Guard Nu Zinc into 1 litre of water. Stir to get a smooth lump free solution. This mix will make 1.2l of drench.

Notes
Start regular Farm Guard Nu Zinc treatment before facial eczema conditions normally occur. Continue until cooler winter conditions e.g. treat from early January to late April.
Lower levels or protection can be expected as the treatment interval increases (80-90% protection at daily intervals).
Where possible use the actual weight of your animals and the dosing rate.
Directions
2: Pasture Spraying - Pasture Dusting Long Term Application Rates (grams or per animal)
Based on hard grazing of treated area for 24 hours:
Treatment Frequency | |||
---|---|---|---|
Class of Stock | 1 day | 3 days | 7 days |
All stock per 100kg | 6 | 20 | 49 |
30kg lamb | 1.9 | 7.5 | 15 |

Jersey x Fresian 400kg | 24 | 80 | 190 |
Fresian 450kg | 27 | 90 | 220 |
Crisis Application Rates
Increase application Rates by 33% and treat at a maximum interval of 3 days. (for example 1.8g becomes 2.4g and 6g becomes 8g).
Notes
If pasture treating apply Farm Guard Nu Zinc to an area sufficient to provide 24 hours hard grazing.
Hard grazed stock will consume approximately 30-40% of the total pasture mass and 50-60% of the applied Farm Guard Nu Zinc in a 24 hour period where pasture is of a reasonable length.
Uptake of Farm Guard Nu Zinc will be lower under low feed conditions and the application rates will need to be increased to compensate.
If the area treated cannot be hard grazed in 24 hours, higher application rates will need to be used to compensate.
For pasture spraying apply in sufficient water to ensure good coverage. Avoid runoff and keep tank agitated.
Pasture dusting or spraying must be performed by an Approved Handler as required by HSNO Legislation.
