Add up to the farm’s total daily requirement of Farmguard MONO ZINC and add via the water supply by one of the following methods:
Method 1: Constant Daily Dose Methods
Direct addition to the farm’s bulk supply tank. The farm’s daily Farmguard MONO ZINC requirement is dissolved in water and added to the supply tank. Suitable when the supply tank contains about 100 litres capacity per lactating cow, or cow equivalent, or when draw off per day is not more than half to two thirds of its volume.
Dilution unit delivery. The farm’s daily Farmguard MONO ZINC requirement is added and immediately mixed in the diluting unit’s concentrate supply tank which is topped up with water. Daily draw off from the concentrate tank should not exceed half or two thirds of its volume. See Equipment manufacturers instructions for full details.
Method 2: Constant Concentration Method
Using a diluting unit. The farm’s daily Farmguard MONO ZINC requirement is dissolved then fed into the water supply via a diluting unit to maintain a constant concentration. See Equipment manufac - turers instructions for full details.
Method 3: Direct Addition Method
Trough add after dissolving in water. Suitable when small numbers of animals are to be protected and the average daily water consumption is less than two thirds of the capacity of the trough.
Using a trough dispenser. On a daily basis pre-dissolve the herd’s daily Farmguard MONO ZINC requirement and add to the dispenser. When cows enter the paddock put the dispenser in the water trough. If 12 hour grazing, shift the dispenser into the new trough when the cows enter the new paddock.
Notes
The longer Farmguard MONO ZINC is given to animals before they ingest toxic facial eczema spores, the greater is the amount of liver protection. Begin the water treatment 2 weeks prior to the expected facial eczema season. The concentration of Farmguard MONO ZINC should be gradually built up to that required over 3-5 days for the stock to become accustomed to the taste.
This happens automatically when using method 1. For methods 2 and 3, use 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 then the full daily requirement. Then prime all remaining troughs on the reticulation system from which the stock have not yet drunk with 6g Farmguard MONO ZINC per 10 litres of water. Zinc may be toxic to stock at higher than the recommended levels. Copper and Selenium may need to be further supplemented in deficient areas when dosing with Zinc. Do not allow stock access to untreated water. Farmguard MONO ZINC can be measured by volume; 100ml = 150 grams.
